The Student and Online Classes

Online classes take a serious commitment from the student and parent. Basically, my online classes meet once a week. This involves learners meeting in class with the teacher once a week and completing lessons on their own until we meet again in online class. My biggest hurdle with learners is getting them to understand that you must spread your work out over several days. Do not wait until the day before class to complete your homework. Reviewing and completing assignments throughout the week assists with mastering concepts and give you the opportunity to submit quality work, especially with writing assignments. There are learners who take my advice and work on assignments daily and this shows in the work they turn in. There are also learners who wait till the last minute to work on assignments and this also shows in the work they turn in. Honestly, I have noticed that learners who spend a good amount of time on assignments obtain higher grades than those who do not invest enough time in completing assignments. I have also noticed that students who do not spend enough time on assignments receive lower grades, but when given the opportunity to re-do an assignment receive a much better grade. When those students that rush their assignments decide to spend the extra time on completing assignments, they then increase their grade significantly.

Parents are also a key factor with students having success with online classes. In my opinion learners with parents who make sure their learner keeps on track with assignments also receive higher grades. Yes, there are learners who take control of completing and correctly submitting assignments without parent assistance. Is this the norm, not from what I have experienced. It must be stated that online classes can lead to learners being able to take control of their learning. This could lead to gaining time management skills, working independently, and enhancing self-discipline skills. The above mentioned skills and parent involvement with learners taking online classes leads to success with online classes.
